It bothers me that they refuse to put even an ounce of blame on their parents. If someone shows up to your house and drags your kid out of bed in the middle of the night. That should be a red flag. If they would do that in front of you what do you imagine they would do when no one is around. There’s no way i would ever be okay with sending my 15 year old kid off to a boarding school “for troubled teens” in another state only getting to talk to them weekly and very briefly. This is definitely solely the fault of the parents. Let’s call it what it is. They felt like she was being a burden to them and so that’s what these people treated these children like...

I'm curious how these schools get all the medications? If anyone can explain would be cool.

Any therapist shouldn't recommend parents to send there children to this place this is just ruining childrens lives why is this place a thing?! It should be banned from all countries this shouldn't exist.

Any decent place will have family therapy sessions, family day out without staff etc.....

Why is the word abuse muted every time?

Anyone, who also stays on Reddit, remembers the post about a teenager asking for help on how to run away from a terror “boarding school”?? It’s been a couple of years now but I remember refreshing for updates every day. They had to smuggle a phone in and would go days without eating and/or being sedated.

And that’s on keeping a knife under my pillow 🤗 I would have fought for my life if people came into my room at night.

If I was trying to shut down the school and make sure that stuff like this never happened ever again, I would take the undercover route before shining a spotlight on top of it. In situations like this, when attention gets brought to something bad, people will go into places like this to see if all of everything checks out and proper protocols are being followed. That gives places like Provo School time to make changes outwardly so that everything looks kosher. had it been some undercover situation they could get actual evidence when Provo doesn't know that they're being watched. I believe there's some kind of statute on what can be let in as evidence but once there's video evidence, proof is proof. At the very least public opinion can be almost just as powerful as Court hearings. But a big problem of schools like this or even just places like this is that there's always going to be parents who don't care enough about their children to continue sending them to places like this anyway 😔

Please believe me that what follows this is with 100% understanding of PTSD and being too scared to talk about it but let me say this with my own opinion. If I lived through something as horrible as Provo and knew that other children were suffering the same fate there's no way that I would wait as many years as I did to speak up about it. I wouldn't be able to knowing all of the children still suffering at a place that I had my worst experiences at. Years and years went by and silence. And kat didn't say anything until paris did... My conscience probably would have been more torn up by that than having lived through the actual experience because some of those kids lived through even worse experiences than they did

i searched the school up, and there was this paragraph about how its not abusive or anything and how they would never do that, and that it "helps" the kids who attend there. this school should be destroyed.

Well she is right. They arent schools. In fact, some of these places aren’t certified as education facilities. I would be really surprised if they are certified in mental health too. I don’t know what doctor would refer parents to these places, or what parents would send their child to an in house facility without checking the place out first. I would need to see where my kid would be sleeping, what they’d be eating, who would be caring for them, etc. How that happens I will never understand.

I never heard of this place until now. I'm glad Kat and Paris are coming forward so this place and others like it can be shut down. Children even teenagers need positive guidance and care. Not sedation with psychotic drugs that could harm their growth.

This is so sad. Doesn't matter who you are NO ONE should have to experience this ever. The people who have worked with this school deserve serious jail time ASAP.

Wow... This one hits close to home. I live maybe 20 minutes away from this place. Surprisingly I’ve never heard of it, but this is insane.

As someone who went to an alternative school (not at all anywhere as abusive as the one Paris and Kat went to) for my last two years of high school due to various issues I was struggling with at the time, I really empathize everyone who is going through this or went through this kind of situation. It's awful a place that is supposed to help you and make you feel better is instead abusing you and treating you like garbage. That place should be shut down.

I'm honestly horrified that this place exists. It describes all the genuine fears I had when my mom would constantly threaten to send me to a behavior modification school. My heart goes out to all the victims who had to go through such abuse.

This is false because I know a guy in my school who was at one of these places. And he has ptsd and a multitude of other issues after being there. And he’s only 16 now. So this has happened after 2000

Sounds a good bit like placement. I spent about 5 years bouncing back and forth between different placements and foster homes. When I was first released by CYS it was a huge adjustment. Took forever for me to even get used to the fact I was allowed to leave a room without permission.

I went to a school very similar to this I was so emotionally damaged I ended up doing things that got me in real trouble I was expelled. Which was a great thing. They tried to get my parents to transfer me to a conservative boarding school in Texas my mother said no thank god. Schools like these exist everywhere it’s awful. As a boarding school kid myself (not quite as extreme in some ways but still), private school isn't always what it's cracked up to be. I hope the students and victims of this school may find peace. Side note: the over-censorship of literally every other word is a bit... r*diculous.

I did 2 years in Texas in the late 80s. 9 months stuck in a windowless room and no books or entertainment at all. No interaction with anyone but my psychiatrist. Then another year plus once they let me out that room. It was in Austin Texas. Lots of teens from all over the country. The Brown Schools. Also called The Oaks. They were later sued for a kid dying in their care. But still wasn’t enough to shut them down. It’s abuse. Absolutely. And it shouldn’t happen ever. Anywhere to anyone. I’m glad it’s getting attention now from these people speaking out. Shut it down.

Sadly most facilities meant to “help” troubled teens and or mentally ill teens actually exist to exploit parents for money. They don’t care about the kids. In fact they will treat the kid badly to prove the kid still has the issue when the parents come to visit. I beg parents of troubled teens. Visit the facilities you plan to send your children and demand unsupervised visits once your child has been admitted for a month. Trust your child if they say something is wrong.

This reminds me of many of the "mental health" inpatient facilities they have. I was in 3 at age 12 and they basically just tested medicines on me when I kept having seizures and I couldn't refuse them... there was one that had a yard on the roof that reminds me of prison yards they have in movies, a gate completely up and over so you couldn't climb out. I was in there for 4 months of 6th grade all because I missed my mom and it was diagnosed as depression.

Everyday we stray further from god.

some of these things are normal for mental health facilities but some of these things are not. I experienced the same thing as a kid in mental health facilities. I more worse coming out too
