That's why I stopped helping homeless. I used to give homeless 5 or 10 or 20 dollars sometimes but after a while of meeting crazy homeless I only give 1 or 3 dollars once in a while.

I mean, I feel like Rahat was just plain naive. Almost impossibly naive. Of course the homeless guy had issues, financial, drugs, mental, who knows. Expecting him to just up and becoming this wonderful person was unrealistic. Something like this should've come with maybe entering a rehab clinic, or just the check and that's it. He took on responsibilities of managing the money that were way above what he should've undertaken.

Rahat treated Eric poorly. The money should have been placed in a dedicated trust fund with an actual charity in charge of the money. The money was never his to decide how it should be spent, nor did he have the education or legal requirements to administer “charity” money. Eric and the above mentioned trust fund set up by a charity could have legally decided and acted upon conditions for the money’s release over a period of time, just like trust funds for people who receive an inheritance. To keep money that was not his and create your own stipulation on its release is indicative of a “god” complex. Was there a disclaimer on the donation page stating you would be the sole subsidiary to the money’s management and release? Also the “tax” money you had to pay. Was that money put back into the fund by yourself? If not, that is money stolen from the fund. Like above this should have been handled by a charity. You just wanted the clout. Bad form.

Interesting little bit where Rahat says he "budgeted" about 30% of the donations to cover the taxes. He then follows this by sadly saying he had to come out of pocket to pay the taxes. It sounds to me like he literally just admitted the sentence before that the taxes were paid with Eric's money.
