I feel sorry for his parents. They just want what’s best for him and they want him to not get in huge trouble because of a girl who fakes her age. In this case, respectively, they are not smart and the relationship is not smart. However to answer the question "would you ever choose a significant other over family," yes. I definitely would in some cases and I don't think it's wrong for other people to do so.
